4/28/15 – Update
Reader came across the Harbor Bay big & tall brand of undershirts on DestinationXL, sizes from XL to 6XLT. Check out the Big-Tall Clothing section of my Places to Shop page for more options.
I don’t envy guys that fit into the “Big & Tall” clothing category. Hell, it’s hard enough for me to find clothing that fits me right, I can’t imagine what these other guys go through. Especially tall guys, or those with really long torsos.
While there are a growing number of companies offering long undershirts, very few of them offer undershirts that are long enough for the real tall or long-torsoed fellas.
So back in October, I received the following email from a reader:
I just bought some new undershirts I am trying from Foundry extra long undershirt (was on foundrybigandtall.com) [Big & Tall Supply Co.]
Is there a set guideline to go by for reviewing? How to measure and such?
Thanks I hope I can contribute.
After a bit of back and forth, the reader kindly sent in some thoughts about the Foundry extra long undershirt (was on foundrybigandtall.com), and included some pictures as well!
One interesting piece of information I learned is that The Foundry is actually owned by the good folks at JCPenney. Wow, very neat!
Thanks to this reader for taking time to write in. If you have any other big & tall undershirt suggestions, or are interested in submitting a product review, be sure to get in touch with me!
A Reader’s Comments on Big & Tall Undershirts from The Foundry
Looking for undershirts that are long, will last and are comfortable. Finding a long shirt in XL is usually tough.
These are from a chain called the The Foundry [owned by JCPenney] which is for Big and Tall. They are priced $20 for a package of two.
The Good:
- 100% cotton
- Pre-shrunk
- Tagless
- Sizes to 6XL and tall up to 4XLT
- Collars lay flat
The Bad:
- Pre-shrunk but still shrink after washing
Out of the package the 2XLT is 55.5 inches long and after first washing they lost two inches. I have only washed them once so any more shrinkage is not known. Shoulder width is fine and did not notice shrinking in that area that caused discomfort.
Help! My husband loves the Foundry company undershirts and I tried to get more at JC Penney’s but are unable to find them online or in stores. Does anyone know any other resources for them?
heya sonya, did you check the big & tall section of this page:

As of January 17, 2015, the Foundry Big and Tall Supply Co. has ceased operations. Is there a competitor that offers a comparable product? My sweetie purchased a package of Foundry tanks for me and they were by far the best fitting tanks I’ve ever worn. I will sorely miss this company’s product offerings.
thanks for the update matt! i’ve gone ahead and updated the top of my article to reflect the closing of foundry big & tall.

maybe king size direct, or rochester big & tall (includes casual male xl and destinationxl) might have some tank tops that will work for you.
check’em out and let me know if you find something at one of those websites.
Only their stores are closing. They are still making product for JCP.
thanks for that clarification eric!
