Man, I’ve been just dying to share this Hanes news with you, but things have been so crazy over here at Tug HQ, it all slipped through the cracks!! Doh, sorry about that folks.
News Highlights:
- Hanes Launches New Power Slim Tee!! Yes, a Slimming/Shapewear Tee/Undershirt from Hanes!!! I’m super excited about this and can’t wait to try it out!
- Hanes Launches New Premium Slim Fit Tee. Same great feeling 50/50 fabric used in ComfortBlend, but with a slimmer cut
- Hanes Goes Tagless Across All Men’s Underwear
Premium Power Slim & Premium Slim Fit Tee (Exclusive Info)
This is pretty awesome news in my book on both product offerings, but what’s even more exciting is that I’ll be able to tell you exactly where to get them because they aren’t sold everywhere across the country and can only be purchased at SELECT TARGET STORE LOCATIONS.
Thanks to the kind folks at Hanes, not only did they load me with some great information about these two new products, they also sent me a list of the exact Target stores that are currently carrying them (map below)! The Map is interactive, so you can either put in your State or Zip Code in the Search box (upper right of Map) and it’ll show you the closest Target Store that should carry one or both products.
If the Power Slim Fit Tee performs even reasonably well, at $10 per undershirt, I think it could become my new favorite shaping undershirt pretty quickly. We’ll see.
Also, I’m a pretty big fan of the ComfortBlend 50/50 from Hanes, so I’m equally as excited to try out the new Premium Slim Fit Tee because I’m a sucker for a close fitting undershirt. Since the product has 50% polyester, it’ll have a great stretch to it and also offer a balance between wicking and absorbing performance. Quick blurb about how the Slim Fit compares to ComfortBlend:
The Hanes Premium Slim Fit shirt tapers in on the sides of the shirt for a slimmer fit, while tailoring the shoulders and arms slightly relaxed to avoid tension across the shoulders and pinching under the arms. Premium Slim Fit features 50/50 cotton/poly blend fabric, comparable to the popular Hanes ComfortBlend shirt, which creates a shirt that is lighter weight, naturally wicks, shrinks less and is quite durable.

All Hanes Underwear Now Tagless
The media releases quickly spreading across the internet are about the announcement of Hanes new Tagless Underwear. Here’s a quick blurb from the company about the new product release:
Hanes has retired tags from all their men’s underwear! No more itchy, scratching or chafing from that annoying tag!
America’s No. 1 men’s underwear brand, Hanes, has gone Tagless across their entire men’s underwear line! To celebrate this milestone in comfort, they’ve launched a new ad campaign starring longtime spokesperson Michael Jordan. The campaign amplifies the annoyance of an uncomfortable tag by bringing it to life and giving the tag irritating traits that drive people crazy.
The company has also developed a comprehensive “Media Release” page that not only covers the news itself, but it also provides the new TV commercials created to support the launch and also some fun Behind the Scenes clips and photos too. Here’s one of the new Tagless Underwear Commercials:
New/Updated ComfortBlend Product Line Details
Below you’ll find a complete list of all the new ComfortBlend tagless undershirts and underwear. I don’t know exactly where all the products are sold, but I did see some of the new ComfortBlend underwear at Target recently, so that would be a good starting place.
The Haynes power slim tee shirts are still in stock at Target. Bought a few last night. However, they run small. I wear small in shirts, like Underarmour and Nike compression, but always get a medium in the Haynes.
Hi! I haven’t spotted one yet at Kolhs or Target in Arizona…can I ask you, Andy, what area you did find them in stock. Was it near a major metropolitan city on one of the coasts?
For those of you who use a Power Slim Fit, what size would suggest for someone who wears a Spanx size large? Should I go to a medium in this Haynes model?
Thanks!
– Steve
heya steve! my suggestion would be to pick your standard undershirt size, unless you’re between sizes. if you’re between sizes, you might want to size up.
i wear medium undershirts across the board (for a close fit) and the size medium hanes power slim fit undershirt fit me perfectly.
good luck and let me know what you think of them.
Thanks TUG, I’ll give it a whirl. At the price if I’m off by a size it’s not the end of the world, especially when compared to the spun gold costs of Spanx!
The sales of the Power Slim at Target stores must have been a test run. I bough a bunch of the clearance ones back in the fall. I wear a large slim fit shirt so I bought both large and medium. The mediums are a tighter fit and help with chest compression (that’s the only area I need – I’m 6’3″ 205).
Well, they are selling the slim fits [correction: power slims] again. Not as cheap as I got them on clearance, but still cheaper than other alternatives. I have seen them between $24.00 and $29.00 for a two pack. I just ordered six two-packs on the Kohl’s website. They have them buy one get one half off and since my total was high enough, I got free shipping. $108 total for 12 t-shirts. There was another site offering buy one get one half off with free shipping, but I like the option of being able to return them to a Kohl’s store if they are somehow different than the ones I bought at Target back in the fall.
Correction to the above…they are selling POWER SLIM shirts again. Didn’t want to confuse anyone.
Link to Kohl’s site where I bought them:
http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1142640/hanes-classics-2-pk-power-slim-crewneck-tees.jsp?searchTerm=hanes%20power%20slim
awesome, thanks for the intel anon! (:
wondering if hanes is:
1. testing power slim at kohls, or
2. clearing out power slim stock at kohls
inquiring minds want to know!
I just ordered a medium off the Hanes website:
http://www.hanes.com/clothing/men/big—tall/big—tall-underwear—socks/hanes-classics-power-slim-white-crewneck-undershirt?cm_vc=OnsiteSearch&cmFV=
The shipping sucks at $10, but Kohls is out of the white medium.
Might be coming out of test phase.
thanks mike! it’ll be interesting to see what hanes does with this power slim product!
I probably bought up all of the mediums! Sorry!
They are also buy one get one half off at JustMySize.com:
http://www.justmysize.com/plus-size/mens—kids/mens-underwear-1/undershirts/hanes-classics-power-slim-white-crewneck-undershirt?gclid=CJXBqM-gk7YCFYbc4AodwGMA6w&d1=SEARCHJ&cm_mmc=Google-_-PLA-_-NA-_-NA
I also see them for sale at the hanes website, Sears.com, and onehanesplace.com.
Looks like they are available in black as well.
Funny, right after I posted the above comment, FedEx dropped off the shipment from Kohl’s at my door! I ordered just before midnight Wednesday night and they arrived Saturday via FedEx Home Delivery – no change.
The packaging is different that the ones I bought at Target (these ones are in thick “Zip-Lock” type bag instead of the cardboard sleeves) but the material feels the same. I’ll post later when I try one on. I want to shower first and then not put on deoderant – these shirts are tight going on and I sometimes get deoderant streaks down the sides when putting them on. Ha!
hey anon! thanks for the info. keep us posted.
tip: to remove those white deodorant marks from your darker shirts/undershirts, just rub the fabric from another part of the shirt on the deodorant marks and they should come out. you can also use other things like dryer sheets, white gym sock, your gf/wife’s pantyhose or nylon stocking, or a deodorant sponge.
mostly deodorant sponges like hollywood fashion secrets deodorant removing sponge, skid out, miss oops, etc. are marketed toward women, but companies like ‘hollywood fashion’ are making the same products for men, but just rebranding them (i.e. hollywood fashion secrets decent man’s deodorant & dirt removing sponge). damn, that’s a mouthful.
I’m wearing a medium right now. Same fit, feel, material, etc. Glad they are back.
I just drove 45 minutes to the only Target that seemed to have these Hanes Power Slim undershirts. I also bought the Evolve Shapewear ones since they were there too just to test them out. Here are the results:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FkFed52Iz9o/UEaAINUXiBI/AAAAAAAAAAk/gybHAIgAdZA/s1600/COMBI.jpg
As you can see on the link provided, I took pictures of me wearing both the medium and large Hanes shirts. (The Evolve SUCKED so I’m not posting them—totally returning those—because it was almost all spandex, so it made no improvements except feeling softer than the Hanes. They resembled Body Armour material and was way stretchier than Hanes Power Slims. I bought sizes medium and large.)
I wear large to extra large shirts, so I’m kind of in the middle of both, and I’m 6’1. For this test, I bought medium and large. I’m GLAD I didn’t buy anything smaller because these shirts are VERY hard to put on! They are TIGHT!! The improvements are obvious in the side view, especially with the medium shirt. The frontal and back views do not show much improvement, but I did notice the medium shirt again was just a bit more slimming than the large.
As for comfort, they were both very tight, with the large shirt having much more room around the shoulders and chest. The medium shirt was tight and I think I’ll have to get used to it, but I’m sure it won’t be bothersome down the road. And since I have noticeable man-boobs and a nice round gut, I’ll definitely be looking into more of the medium sized shirts. I also tried on both of these twice, to see if there was any stretch after wearing them. I noticed the large shirt was much easier to put on, so there will definitely be some noticeable stretching so keep that in mind.
So all in all, your silhouette (front or back view) won’t change much—but definitely squeezes your profile well. As I was at Target, I saw a Evolve girdle/boxer brief combo, where the boxers have a high elastic waist band that wraps over as high as your stomach area. I didn’t try those but maybe they might help more than these did to find improvements on your front/back silhouettes. As for finding these, they are scarce and are disappearing fast. I only found these at the Target in Westminster mall in all of SoCal, so plan your trips accordingly :)
hey ‘just bought’! oh man, thanks for sharing those photos and your thoughts on the hanes slim fit and evolve shaper.
next time i’m at target, i might see if those evolve shaper boxer-brief are there. i’ve been wanting to try those out for some time, but just never got around to it.
not sure what hanes’ long-term plans are for the slim fit tee, but i guess we’ll see. thanks again buddy!
I just left the Target by my office that stocked the slim fit undershirts and they are already on clearence. They never stocked the power slim fit. This is very unfortunate.
They seemed to have replaced this with some. We Jockey shirts. Have. It tried them as they look to be a looser fitting shirt.
TUG has Hanes ever responded to you about these shirts?
no news mr. mike ):
i just reached out to the pr folks at hanes to see what’s up.
i did hear about the new jky undershirts from jockey at target from another reader, but i don’t know anything about them yet. i did reach out to jockey, but they haven’t sent over the product details yet.
did you by chance have the upc of the new jky undershirts?? maybe i can find them at a target near me.
I did not grab any info on the Jockey items. I am in Omaha for travel right now, may see if I can hit a Target here to see what they have…
ok, keep me posted if you do!
four hours into me wearing this hanes power slim fit undershirt, and i’ve gotta say that first impressions are pretty darn good.
this <$10 shaper does a very honorable job smoothing out my midsection and chest area. for this price i don't expect high-compression, but this affordably-priced power slim provides a good amount of control and performs very well, all things considered. overall, i like it so far. surprisingly, it compares favorably to my spanx for men cotton comfort shirt. there are three observations i've made so far: 1. the fabric isn't as soft as i wanted it to be. i'd love to see hanes use a higher-quality or finer (like 40-singles) cotton on this product. i'd even gladly pay a little more for that. 2. the collar has gotten a little loose/stretched out during regular daily wear. i suspect this will correct itself after washing 3. my medium-sized shirt was a hair tough to put on, but frankly speaking, i am 100% ok with struggling a bit to get into a shaper or slimming undershirt. i see no reason why it has to be easy to put on, but it shouldn't be impossible to. here's what i think: this product could be very successful for hanes, but i fear it won't be, and it'll get discontinued pretty quickly. why? it's really simple actually - lack of sales. why will that happen? that's simple too - lack of marketing and promotion see, other than here on this site, information about this new hanes power slim fit tee is essentially non-existent. go google it, and you'll see what i mean. i don't know how any retail men's undergarment product like this can become successful (sell a lot) without some pr or marketing behind it. guys surely don't tell all their friends that they're wearing a slimming/shaping undershirt. so who's gonna know to look for it? also, just because it's on the shelves of a retail store like target doesn't mean anyone is going to actually see it (or buy it). i mean, think of how many other hanes products are in the same section of the store - i'm even confused when i go. so how in the heck is any regular consumer going to be able to find this "power slim fit tee" needle in the undershirt/underwear haystack at target? my guess is that they're not going to. let's recap: 1. no marketing or pr 2. not located in a large number of stores 3. product not available in the stores where they say it supposed to be 4. not available online at hanes.com or target.com, or anywhere else for that matter 5. no marketing or pr - uh, yes i did mean to say that again 6. a small number of these items in a vast sea of other hanes products available on the same walls/shelves. how does this product stand out from the others? for hanes to continue offer a product, i have to believe it has to have BIG sales numbers. otherwise, it wouldn't be worth their time to keep making it because it'll cost them more to manage the program than the revenues it receives in product sales. my gut tells me that if hanes doesn't get behind this product and do some marketing, it'll get discontinued fairly quickly. it's a shame too - because it's pretty good product, especially for the price.
TUG,
I decided to give the Power Slim some wearing time – especially after washing – to see how it fit and felt. Although I only have the Evolve Define Shapewear (discontinued) to make comparisons as an undershirt, or compression wear for working out, I agree with your assessment overall.
1) the cotton isn’t as soft as I would like it – even after a washing
2) the collar on mine didn’t stretch out while wearing, though its ribbing look isn’t as finished as a smooth collar
3) my medium was also tighter than the Evolve Shapewear, but the results were also better in slimming the mid-section
I agree that Hanes discontinuing this product is pretty likely if this was their attempt at test marketing. Online searching shows no products – either for the specific product or through Target.com.
If I can get a few more, I’ll try to pad my undershirt collection with these 4.5-out-of-5-star undershirts!
thanks for your input and feedback jay! glad you’re liking the power slim tee from hanes.
we’ll see what happens, but i’m guessing we might not see this product for too much longer.
Great timing Mike & TUG,
Mine arrived yesterday and having a trial run today too!
thanks jay! keep me posted.
i’m wearing mine right now and….
oh man, guess what i just got? a helpful reader picked up a pack of hanes power slim fit tees and sent them to me! (thanks michael!)
for those interested, i just did all the measurements and updated my undershirt resource workbook with those deets, as well as the upc and style number. (call your local target stores and use the upc number to see if they can direct you to a store that is currently carrying it)
the shape design kinda looks like spanx for men cotton compression and instaslim, but maybe not as pronounced tapering.
it’s sitting on my desk in front of me as i type this – pretty anxious to give it a test drive today to see how it works. i’m crossing my fingers and will post an update later today.
in the meantime, let me know if you have any questions.
Your link for the undershirt resource workbook is wrong, it brings me to a subsctription link. I tried searching, but had no luck finding it. I would like to look at those measuremeants. Looking forward to your thoughts on that shirt, and hopefully Hanes will update you on when we will see these arrive at the stores, I have yet to find one.
that’s the right link mike. when you subscribe, you get the download link, plus you get an email once per week with a list of all the new articles.
if you don’t want to stay subscribed, that’s cool. just unsubscribe after you get the download link.
OMG the Hanes Premium slim fit tee are the Sh**. I was on here looking for an undershirt for me that fit a little closer to the body and i bought a couple ribbed tees, but i didn’t like the lines that were in the shirt, that i wasn’t aware of looking at the pictures on the site, and the way the collar area went kind of low around the chest. After looking at this post, i decided to take a trip to target, and get the Premium slim fit tee( after buying the slim flit power tee at first and returning it) and my undershirt search is over. They are exactly what i wanted in an undershirt. Thanks
hey there dftnb! thanks for stopping by and posting your thoughts about the new slim fit tee from hanes. i really like their comfortblend 50/50, so i imagine i’d really like their slim fit tee since it’s made from the same 50/50 material, but it’s cut slimmer in the torso and slightly wider in the chest. sounds like it probably has an awesome fit.
oh, and i totally get the thing about ribs (lines) in ribbed tees – you either like it or you don’t. stay tuned though – some new design changes and line additions are on the horizon. you’ll hear about them first here so make sure you subscribe to my site!
so i have to ask — what didn’t you like about the hanes premium slim fit power tee? i haven’t tried it yet because i haven’t been able to find one to buy, so i’m kinda at a loss. i just gotta know your thoughts! please tell.
well I’m a rather slim guy and the premium slim fit power tee, didn’t seem to fit as close as the premium slim fit tee on me,but I’m basically what I’m trying to say is the power tee seemed more of a stretch fit shirt for a muscular guy’s frame, but on me it was closer to a normal undershirt fit.
thanks for the additional details dftnb! is there any chance i can recruit you to pick me up a size medium power tee and send it to me?
i’ll reimburse you via paypal and can email you a label you can use to send it to me. lmk. thanks!
TUG, wondering if there are any updates? Also I cannot see the map, getting an error:
dbconnect(): Error connecting to database, please notify [email protected]
Thanks
hey mike! still waiting to hear back from the folks at hanes or their reps. as soon as i hear something, i’ll be sure to post an update here.
i can see the map just fine here on my pc, so i’m not sure why you can’t see it.
I can see the map in IE, not in Chrome, wondering if one of my extensions is causing an issue. I work 2 minutes from one of the locations that should have those shirts. Once you hear back I can go during lunch and check.
TUG, any updates? You would think Hanes would like to get this out to people who are interested in their products. I bought some of the Premium Slim Fit Tee and like them. There is really no stretch, but I like the tight fit, short sleeves, and tight collar.
Would like to try the Premium Power Slim Fit Tee to see what that is like.
no news yet mike. i’m so sad.
hopefully i hear something soon though. might try to recruit someone else to pick one up for me, if i can’t get good intel from hanes.
What size? I have both but have only worn the power slim and really like them.
hey michael, i’m a size medium. would love to get my hands on a power slim just so i can give it a test drive.
Hey TUG!
I found a friend who traveled to Oklahoma City, traveled to three Targets, but eventually found a Hanes Power Slim! FINALLY! It should be put in the mail this weekend and find its way to my door next week.
I’m looking forward to the comparisons between the less expensive Hanes and my favored, but extinct, Evolve Define Shapewear (which, previously unmentioned, has great length… important for a 6’3″ guy).
hey jay! oh man, it’s kinda like you hit gold! (i’m teasing of course).
but hell, our friends over at hanes are not making it easy for us to find these power slim tees so i kinda get excited when i hear that someone has tracked them down.
ok, it’s up to you now – once you get yours from your friend, you’ll have to come back and give us the whole scoop. let us know how they compare to your favored evolve define shapewear tee.
i’m a pretty big fan of my cotton comfort tank from spanx for men, so if we can find a more affordably-price product that has equal shaping/smoothing, i’ll be pretty excited!
Unfortunately as mentioned several times now, the Evolve shapewear category seems to be completely discontinued. I stumbled across them at my local Target about a month ago, bought what they had, and they were never restocked. Other nearby stores do not stock them either, and the website doesn’t list them. *sigh*
I am looking for a reasonably priced alternative because I really like the Evolve brand (I bought several of their boxer briefs and they are my favorites). I’m disappointed and annoyed that I can’t find them any longer.
Adding insult to injury, the Target stores carrying the Hanes slimming shirts aren’t located in Missouri! Strike Two!
hey jay, thanks for stopping by an posting your comments about the evolve and hanes value-priced shaping undershirts!
i recently went on an excursion to a target about one hour away from me just because it was supposed to be carrying the power slim from hanes. unfortunately, when i got there and scoured through the undershirt aisles, all i found were the new hanes slim fit 50/50 undershirts. i even asked a manager, and they had no knowledge of the power slim. gosh, a wasted trip!
i did send an email over to the contacts i have at hanes to see if they have any intel on why the listing of stores they provided seemingly are not carrying the power slim. in fact, they aren’t even available on target.com.
it’s almost like they don’t even exist because there is no mention of them anywhere else on the web, with exception to a couple minor press releases! *ugh*
question: you referred to the evolve boxer briefs. are you talking about their 95/5 boxers? or something else? i have many pairs of their 95/5 boxer briefs and they are by far my favorite boxers right now. they are kinda hard to find, but i’m noticing that some targets i visit (like the one an hour away from me) did have a refreshed selection of them.
Two things to share, TUG,
1) Yep, your experience of a disconnect between “advertised” and “reality” matches my experience on the Hanes Power Slim Tee. Nothing I can see is available online either.
2) You asked about Evolve Boxer Briefs – and “yes” the 95/5 Boxers (recently redesigned) are my favorites.
My experience shows that Target.com doesn’t show an accurate selection of what I see locally either. For example I LOVED the black or green camo 95/5 boxer briefs (which were never online), but didn’t like the solids (white/ or blue & red) because of the too tight leg elastics. The recent redesign of the solids and new patterns (blue/red or blue/yellow) have loosened the constrictive leg elastic in favor of a wider, looser elastic and I enjoy these more. Over time, I can tell you that the camo designs have shrunk more than I would like, and have also developed the washout blurry look; so despite their once attractiveness, they’re failing on daily wearing.
thanks for the info jay!
i’ll have to take a look at the latest 95/5 evolve underwear at target. when i first found them, i tried a pair, then went back and loaded up on black ones.
so my supply is still good, but i’d love to get new ones. my only problem is that i’ve run out of room in the very limited space mrs. tug gives me in our bedroom drawers. she has about 90 percent of the available storage (closet and drawers) and i have rest. not really fair if you ask me, but that’s how it rolls in my household!
i’ll keep everyone posted once i hear any specifics from hanes about the power slim tee.
Here’s a follow-up worth noting:
I went to the Target in Missouri’s State Capital since I was here for a meeting. It was a whim because I’d looked here before for the Evolve Shapewear. Lo and behold!
http://db.tt/ueZM7pKP
When I questioned the workers, they were nice enough to scan the item and tell me, “it’s a clearance item, is $9.99, and that’s the last one we have in the store.” When I whine about how I just discovered these and wanted more but it wasn’t available on the website either, their reply was, “they’re probably repackaging them.”
Given the fact that the new boxer briefs have been recently redesigned with new colors, solids, and plaids, there IS hope these exquisite shapewear shirts will also return! (fingers crossed)
damn! color me a very jealous undershirt blogger jay!
congrats on getting that rare find! i heard it’s a good shaper, but maybe doesn’t have as much compression as some of the higher-priced compression/slimming units.
that said, i do very much like my spanx for men cotton comfort tank, which has less compression than their cotton compression line, and probably similar shaping to the evolve you just picked up.
so, either their repacking them and bringing them back, or they’ve decided not to carry them in exchange for the new hanes power slim tee. i guess we’ll see soon enough.
target and hanes seem to have a pretty deep relationship, due to amount of real-estate that is dedicated to hanes at target, so this would not surprise me.
thanks for sharing! i really appreciate you taking the time.
Hmm, I followed the above map and tried the Target in Rogers, MN, an outer suburb of the Minneapolis area. The Slim Fit Tee’s were on the shelf, but the Power Slip Tee’s were not. Disappointing.
– Steve
ugh, that totally sucks steve. that list is directly from the folks that manage hanes pr/media relations so i hoped/expected it was super accurate.
by chance did you ask one of the target staff about the power slim tees product to see if they just didn’t have it on the shelves yet?
i’m so sorry you wasted a trip.
Oh no worries, this wasn’t that far from my home. I live on the west end of the Minneapolis area anyway. I asked the person in the department and got a blank stare, then proceeded to walk around with him to every spot I had already looked. :-)
Maybe they just haven’t arrived yet. I looked behind the one type to make sure they didn’t double stack them–the products look pretty similar in the pictures you posted, Tug.
thanks!
– Steve
ironic – exactly goes to my earlier comment (rant) here in this post about un-knowledgeable staff.
candidly, i hate shopping at nearly any big retail store like target when i’m looking for something uncommon. that blank stare gets me every time. they’re great for convenience and price, but they usually under perform when it comes to stuff like this.
who knows, maybe i’ll get surprised some day.
Are these Hanes knockoff versions of the Sleek FX and 2xist Evolve brands? If so, it appears Hanes will own all fit categories at Target. Nice for the customer as they get cheaper product
hey dan! thanks for stopping by.
i doubt hanes needs to “knockoff” any products from smaller companies like 2xist and tj (makers of sleek fx). but there’s no doubt that hanes dominates target’s shelves and it will be nearly impossible for any other brands, small or large, to truly compete in that kind of retail environment. i mean fruit of the loom is the 2nd biggest undershirt/underwear company at target, and their shelf/wall space pales in comparison to what hanes has.
i just don’t know how any other company could fairly compete. every time i visit that department at targe, most everyone there is looking at hanes products – well – because there are so many product options to choose from.
that said, your comparison of these new hanes products and the sleek fx is off. the sleek fx is/was a 95/5 shirt which would be in a similar category as hanes’ comfortflex line and not similar to this new power slim line. granted the comfortflex and sleek fx are completely different products even though their fabric content is very similar.
the evolve product i mentioned here not too long ago is also in the slimming/shaping, but i’m pretty sure these evolve products were/are similar to the 2xist form line. so if you can no longer find the affordable evolve versions, you can go buy the more expensive form versions (which i believe have more compression based on what i heard from a reader).
Good points. Its sad that maybe 10% of the selection is non-hanes brand underwear there now. Its confusing to figure out what is what with Hanes at Target as they have too many styles, in my opinion. Maybe it’s purposely confusing
Is the evolve shapewear tee at target anymore? I wanted to get another in NJ store but they are out
undershirt/underwear shopping is pretty confusing in any big retailer like target, walmart, sears, etc. even in some of the department stores (not all). the problem doesn’t completely stem from the manufacturers like hanes – they just want to offer a large enough selection of items to cater to people’s specific needs.
the problem is that the shopping experience is not optimized or intuitive. also, most of the store employees have absolutely no clear understanding of the products. i’m not faulting them mind you because the stores under-staff and probably don’t have any strong directives for the employees to get deeply educated on any specific category of product.
it’s a huge problem from my point of view, because they put the burden of product selection on the shopper, all without providing us with the proper information to make a buying decision. this is why we rely so heavily on the internet to do research before we buy. this is also the reason the big retailers are suffering from the showrooming effect. the innate problem is that the retailers are doing it to themselves.
if i visited a target or walmart (or department store), went to a department and got greeted by a category expert who showed me around, answered my questions, and made product recommendations, i would most likely make a purchase immediately. compare that to what actually happens – visit department, no one there, no one to ask, if you find someone they don’t know anything about the products, lots of products to choose from – you can clearly see the stark contrast to those two shopping experiences.
going back to your original point, even if you did increase the non-hanes undershirt/underwear selection at target, it would make the decision making process even more difficult in my mind.
in either case, it’s not really good for the consumer – it’s more beneficial to the retailer and the big product manufacturers.
on the evolve thing:
i visited a bunch of targets and couldn’t find those evolve-brand shapers, but then again, my guess is that they were available in a limited number of target stores. i know they were available online too, but i didn’t take the opportunity to buy a couple while i could.
I would be all over these if there was more than one location in Wisconsin that carried them. Hopefully this will change soon, as I’d love to try both the Power and the regular slim fit tees.
if i can break away soon, i’m going to venture down south here a bit and see if i can visit one of the socal target stores that is carrying these items.
if i’m successful, i’ll let you guys know.
Interesting news TUG about Hanes Power Slim Fit but where I am not much mens shapewear is carried at stores. I’m not near a Target on the map to carry the Hanes Power Slim Fit T.
Have you seen the Tank version? I came across one when out shopping and it’s basically a Cotton Tank (95% cotton/5% spandex) with a well concealed shaping liner (79% nylon 21% spandex at chest and 70%/30% at tummy). It is by HanesBrands Inc. but is under their Bali Flawless label as style 8014 or 23264 and marketed towards women, I ignored that and bought it off the hanger anyway. (BTW, What gives with all the sealed packages in mens department but product displayed open with tags on the distaff side of the store?)
Maybe a version of their 8014 tank design sized and tailored for men won’t be far behind this first Power Slim Fit T announcement.
hey wayne, i hadn’t seen the bali tank until you pointed it out, but there’s merit in the idea of trying out a woman’s tank top if you can’t find anything on the men’s side that either addresses your problem area or is too expensive.
evolve has a square-cut tank that has similar qualities (an inner lining and stretch fabric exterior), but i’m a big fan of the square-cut tank, nor do i have the physique for it.
if i recall correctly, you found that bali tank at a clearance store, so i’m curious on whether or not it’s still generally available.
so, have you had a chance to try it yet? if so, what do you think of it?
The pix at HerRoom.com are pretty good but the Style 8014 Tank is listed as “final sale, discontinued by manufacturer” item. There’s a outlet store locator at OneHanesPlace.com website. I think I was lucky to find one in white at the local Ross, I’ll try the tank out the next special occasion that turns up.
