If you’re on a quest to find cheap undershirts that are soft, good quality, & proper fitting, this article is a good place to start.
Here’s an email I received recently from Dave, who was searching for such an undershirt.
For several years I’ve worn Gildan brand undershirts from Walmart without much of a thought.
Even though mine were getting pretty old, I realized something had changed.
Not long ago I purchased a new pack. The new ones were very uncomfortable.
Regardless, I put it off and continued wearing my old ones. Recently, they just got too bad to keep wearing.
ADVERTISEMENT Curious as to what had happened, I contacted Gildan. They confirmed the shirts are different and there was no way to get the old ones.
As you can imagine, I have been driving myself crazy trying to find a replacement.
I have looked over your website and feel like you might be the only person who can help me find good quality cheap undershirts.
Undershirts I’ve tried
Hanes – closest but still feel scratchy and uncomfortable
Amazon Essentials – too tight and silky/slick feeling
Stafford – way too long and thick, softness was good
Uniqlo – too silky/slick, not a fan of fabric
The primary thing I’m looking for is softness.
My old Gildan shirts were soft right out of the package. Every other undershirt has been rough and scratchy even after washes.
I also want it to be lightweight and not too tight.
Any help is greatly appreciated, as I said this has become quite an ordeal.

Soft, Good Quality Cheap Undershirts

Good to hear from you buddy and thanks for your question!
To be honest, if you’re looking for a cheap undershirt that is really good, you may be out of luck.
That said, here are some undershirts to consider.
Uniqlo AIRism Undershirts
You mentioned you don’t like the material, being too silky/slick.
Have you tried the AIRism Mesh Undershirts or AIRism Seamless Undershirts?
They are equally as lightweight, but are made with different fabric blends that feel more natural on the skin.
Costco Kirkland Signature Pima Cotton Undershirt
Costco used to make a very nice Pima Cotton V-Neck undershirt, but I think they’ve been discontinued.
I would say these were the softest & lightest cheap undershirts I’ve ever tried.
That said, you may be able to find some on Amazon or eBay.
Munsingwear Undershirts
These undershirts are not too bad and a decent value at about $7.50 each.

Don’t Buy Cheap Undershirts
Outside of that, I’d say your best bet is keep an open mind.
Instead buying cheap undershirts, I’d recommend switching to premium undershirts, some of which are included on my favorite undershirts page.
