Managing moderate underarm sweating or even full-on hyperhidrosis can be a challenging task. For such a wide-spread issue, there are only a small number available, accessible solutions.
Solutions range from strong or clinical-strength antiperspirants, to botox injections, surgery, underarm shield pads, and of course, special protective undershirts made for heavy sweaters (hyperhidrosis). There is also a new treatment called MiraDry, but the new procedure is not 100% effective.
In my interactions with readers who have the condition and who have tried various sweat-through resistant undershirt solutions, the results have been mixed. For some, certain undershirts work great. For others, the same undershirts are not effective.
In addition, out of the six existing manufacturers of hyperhidrosis undershirts, only two of them are based here in the United States. The main challenge here is that you’ll either wait for a while to get your shirts, or the shipping cost could be excessive.
Newcomer, Southern California-based Thompson Tee with Hydro-Shield Technology aims to challenge the status quo with their Made in USA, 100% Guaranteed, patent-pending, armpit sweat-blocking undershirt. Here’s the intro email I received recently from the president of the company:
Hello Tug! Big fan of your site, so much so, that we wanted you to be the first to introduce the latest development in undershirts for underarm sweat management, the Thompson Tee with Hydro-Shield Technology.
Classified as a medical device by the FDA, the Thompson Tee offers the best features of an undershirt (which we believe you’ll appreciate) with our proprietary Hydro-Shield Technology to form the most advanced underarm sweatproof barrier available.
The Patent Pending design combines ultra soft lightweight premium cotton with a clinical-grade waterproof material to completely block armpit sweat from passing through, while allowing body heat and moisture to escape as dry vapor.
Complete with Antibacterial and Hypoallergenic qualities, the Thompson Tee is the only undershirt on the market today that provides a truly integrated underarm waterproof breathable barrier – the ultimate protection from ‘wet marks’ and yellow stains.
And…it’s made here in the U.S.A.

Of course I got in touch and asked a couple questions:
- What exactly is the Hydro-Shield technology made from
- Could I recruit some UndershirtGuy.com readers who are heavy sweaters and have them try out the new Thompson Tee
Here’s the response (Wow!)
Hey Tug – good to hear from you as well! Our proprietary Hydro-Shield is an ultra-thin durable compound polymer based hydrophilic film in between two thin cotton layers, all of which is by design. The benefits of this film are all native properties so it is not a “chemically” treated fabric and will not wash off/out over time. The proprietary layering and stitching system was engineered to control the thermal heat transfer/reaction off the film by way of the evaporative cooling effect, which is facilitated by the billowing effect of the wearers natural arm movement. All of which is unnoticeable to the wearer. The wearer may feel the cooling effect but nothing different than any other time sweat is met by air, which is our body’s natural way of cooling itself. The vapor transfer properties of the film (breathability) are further enhanced by the layering/stitching system. Vapor will travel on the molecular level of the film to reach an equilibrium with the outside air, so the more air we “billow” in, the better this process becomes, enhancing the overall comfort of the shirt. The choice to use cotton primarily stemmed from fighting odor as cotton allows odor molecules to break away much easier than polyester. The internal stitching system in particular, was designed to allow for maximum air circulation without comprising our barrier.
So for something so seemingly simple, a lot of thought/time/energy went into creating the “most advanced underarm sweat-proof barrier” available. We believe our customers will agree as our mission/passion was to create the most effective, convenient, reliable, and affordable solution for those concerned with excessive underarm sweat. Some pricing analysts told us that we could of easily priced this shirt in the $50-$100+ range, but we felt that there are young boys (this issue typically starts at puberty) across America who’s families simply cannot afford such a price, considering some of them may need 5 or more shirts for everyday of the school week. Also we were told that we couldn’t successfully make such a product here in the U.S. at our desired retail price point…. well, we’re doing it anyways to show that “making Business sense” can be achieved while “making Human sense.”
We would love to offer your Hyperhidrosis-affected (underarm in particular) readers a free Thompson Tee in exchange for feedback. Please have them send an email to: [email protected] with the Subject Line: “TUG” and have them tell us where they’re located (country) and what they’re currently doing to treat their excessive underarm sweat. If they need any more information on our company and/or product, please direct them to: www.thompsontee.com or have them email us as well. Just an FYI – we’re working with the International Hyperhidrosis Society to obtain test participants and should we reach our maximum participants through them, I will personally guarantee some of your affected readers a Thompson Tee to test and provide feedback in our effort to show our appreciation of your support Tug.
Thanks again and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship.
The “trial” period for a free Thompson Tee is over as they have reached the maximum number of participants. Sorry folks!
