I found this great new web magazine called uncrate.com that has a bunch of information on stuff that us guys will find interesting. Here’s how the folks at uncrate describe their site:
Uncrate is a web magazine for guys who love stuff. Our team digs up the best gadgets, clothes, cars, DVDs and more. New items are posted daily. Enjoy responsively.
It also has an “Answers” section on the site (similar to Yahoo Answers, but better) where guys post questions looking for advice from other guys. Lately I’ve been spending time on the site and have answered a couple of questions related to undershirts. For this particular question, my answer was chosen as the best answer so I thought I’d share it with you here. Plus, it has some other good comments and recommendations from other guys that are worth considering.
Original Question:
Black or white undershirt below a black “clubbing” dress shirt? Or no shirt at all?

Hey Vandon,
I’m going to agree with a couple of the other comments posted here and recommend either:
1. Ribbed Tank Top (black or grey)
2. V-Neck Undershirt (black or grey)
In the club scene where guys are wearing the dressy/casual shirts, tanks can look pretty appropriate but they won’t do a great job in protecting your shirt from perspiration sweat-through.
If you go for the v-neck so you can protect your dress shirt from body oils or sweat, you should consider going with a light weight, form fitting v-neck undershirt so your outer shirt will lay nicely over it.
There are tons of articles on my blog related to undershirt style that you might want to take a look at. Here’s the link:

Women love seeing a little ‘chest skin’ just like we seeing theirs. Personally I’d go with the v-neck undershirt for two reasons: first, it let’s you show off some chest and second, it helps catch any perspiration you might have while dancing on the dance floor:

You don’t really want to see the undershirt, but if you are going to show off some skin though, make sure your chest hair is trimmed down. Girls don’t like seeing a forest peaking out of your shirt.

It’s a good idea to wear an undershirt to clubs, keeps your dress shirt free of sweat. If there is some white on the black dress shirt (stripes or whatever) then wear a white undershirt, otherwise go with a black one. Make sure the black undershirt isn’t grey or old/faded.

Black if you go with anything at all. Tank or V, no crew’s in the club.

If you’re going clubbing the best thing to do is wear a tank top white of black depending on the button down. I like to wear a low cut tank with the top two buttons undone to show your pecs.
