A reader, looking for a very specific undershirt:
I have recently come across your website and I am impressed with your dedication to the world of undershirts.
I am writing to ask if you know of any brand of Made in the USA, 100% cotton shirts in tall sizes. I followed the links on your “made in the USA” post, but so far all the shirts I have come across fail to meet all the criteria.
I am starting to think I should look into purchasing white tees and use them as undershirt instead.
Let me know if you have any suggestions!
Thank you in advance and Happy New Year. -Serg
Wanted to clarify a couple things, so I asked Serg how tall he is and what the length of his current tees/undershirts are.
Serg is 6’5″ and he’s currently wearing undershirts that are only 25″ long (from HPS to bottom). I really should call those 25″ short because Serg’s existing undershirts are a good 3-4″ shorter than many newer undershirts.
I threw out the following recommendations:
my pleasure buddy! whoa, those undershirts are really short (:
from my made in usa undershirt list, here are ones that i know make undershirts that are several inches longer than your current ones (depending on your size):
- american apparel – has a 100% cotton tee, lightweight so it can be worn as undershirt
- flint & tinder – has a 100% cotton undershirt
- ribbedtee – coolwear supima or classic fit – both 100% cotton, but supima is nicer/smoother cotton
- thompson tee – has a 100% cotton undershirt too, though they a limited-edition product and they are currently on clearance
none of the above guys have “tall” versions, but they are all definitely longer than 25″.
the only brands that i know of that make “tall” versions of undershirts include:
- landsend (imported)
- jockey (imported)
- stafford (imported)
- stanfields (made in canada) – 7″ longer
they are listed here:
hopefully the above information will get you dialed into finding something that’ll be long enough for you.
I wanted to give you an update on my undershirt-Tshirt search. I ended up trying two white shirts manufactured by Jensen Apparel (a company I found on your website).
The Large Tall white shirts are long enough to be worn as undershirts and tailored well enough to double as tees. I had to wash in hot water to shrink them slightly, but now they are perfect.
I think I will place another order for white and colored shirts both.
Thank you for putting the time and effort that you do in your website, it was really helpful.
